Another day, another race… I may go home with more race bibs than shoes this time!
On Wednesday afternoon, Isa and I did our first real 5K together at the Buffalo Broadcasters Celebrity 5K Run. Actually and truly, it was our second 5K together, but she refuses to admit to the 2009 Freezer 5K, given her, um, memorable performance, so I’ll just leave it at that.
ANYWAY. It could not have been a better 5K! It could not have been a prettier day, our legs were fresh, our pace was great, we complemented each other perfectly (she goes out fast and slows down at the end, and I’m the opposite) and we slapped each other’s booties when needed–either for morale or for the entertainment of race and security personnel.
I sang and rocked the biggest, stupidest grin for the WHOLE run, even the dumb hill we had to climb twice (race organizers, could you pretty please change the course so we don’t have to loop around the WNED building? Because that hill, mini as it is, just sucks, please and thank you?)
AND, not like I was expecting either of these–since the goal was just to have a great time racing with my sister–but…
- I made peace with my Garmin, and
- I got my best REAL and official, true-course, no doubts-about-it, 5K time yet!
Plus we looked cute crossing the line:
And we scarfed Spanish sausage afterward (thanks, sponsoring Democrat candidate for the area for the sausage gift!):
And our mom came, too (and I’m sure she was equally glad to discover that delicious Spanish sausage as she was to see her daughters race–fair enough!):
Oh, and Isa and I both got pooped upon by seagulls–but I’m calling that our good-luck charm, and of course there are no pictures as evidence. Ew.

This sounds like fun! I wish I could run with my sister too. Last time we tried to run around the block together, she accused me of trying to kill her! By means of running. And yes she did call our mother all the way across the Atlantic to let her know. Maybe I can train her somehow?? I hope you are enjoying your vacation and family time
She is SO much fun to run with–now that she actually runs on her own! But yeah, there have been some slightly-less-cheery sister running moments to get her there… (Oh, and she used to call me from the US to Canada to get me to resolve sister arguments when I moved out–I totally understand how international phone rates don’t matter in such sisterly disputes!) I’m having a blast this summer, hope you are too…
