There is a new rule in the house. It goes along the lines of “I will dress like a human being on Mondays.” (There’s a corollary rule for Sundays, by the way, which is basically “dress like a human being even if not leaving the house under any circumstances, you queen of the lazies”). It’s just so nice to start the week in a put-together fashion, even if I don’t feel like waking up to work because I was up half the night with subsequent and consecutive sneezing, snotting, coughing, and crampy leg fits…. none of which ever happen at the same time, thus waking me up separately about a million times a night.
Nonetheless, that should have nothing to do with looking like a presentable person. Since I got dressed and I was productive anyway, I’m going to put bad logic to good use and assume that the former led to the latter and make an effort to stick with this new thing.
Week one of the new initiative, in effect:
What I’m Wearing:
Tank top: Forever 21, from ages ago
Skirt: made by me, based on this Megan Nielsen maternity skirt tutorial
Cardigan: Primark, circa 2006 (I think?)
Sandals: Target boutique (and sooo beaten up now)
Belt/sash around waist: from an H and M dress
Earrings: gift from friend, from India
Mischief Caused In It:
Working all day–just a normal old day around the house.
Why The Love:
What’s not to love about wearing two of my favorite colors together? Or about finding a good outfit with which I can wear my favorite Indian earrings?
And also, this combo does not include leggings, or things that don’t fit properly (well, the tank doesn’t even reach halfway down my stomach, but no one can tell), or things that could be confused for A) pajamas, B) exercise clothes, or C) clothes for painting or cleaning a house. This is all real progress, especially on a Monday, and most especially while pregnant, when, in times of desperation, you’re tempted to wear things (like the three kinds of clothes mentioned before) that you’d never wear before, just because they fit.
Plus, I’ll be able to re-create this look when I go to Buffalo for Christmas! I have a long-sleeved top in that shade of mustard and can’t wait to put this together with tights (OK, leggings, because I’m a wimp in the cold) and boots.
And, on a couple of side notes:
- I’m by far the only one in the universe who loves this color combo (see Kendi Everyday’s iteration, which she posted the day after I wore this, meaning she probably wore it on Monday? Strange world indeed… and don’t I wish I could pose in front of a castle once in a while!)
- That’s a 21 and a half-ish (not that I’m counting, mind you) belly in the picture. The child was pretty kicky that day, making me think she, too, wants to wear cheap black and white leopard print. For the record, I’m putting my foot down on that one–at least until she’s fifteen and demonstrates to me that she knows the difference between using leopard for kitsch and for sheer trampiness.
