Carnival!

Nowhere else in the world can you experience a two-day-long street party that looks anything like this!  I live from carnival to carnival and I’m convinced that this big ole street party is THE reason why I had to end up here in lovely Trinidad.

Yes my dears, I was born to play mas–and that’s exactly what I did at Carnival 2010!  I donned the feathers and the sunblock and hit the streets–read all about.

So, what is this party all about?  Let me show you the bacchanal–as seen at Trinidad Carnival Tuesday 2009…

And Trinidad Carnival Tuesday 2010…

Doesn’t that make you want to book your plane ticket to Trinidad?

Please note: I do not have any links, official or otherwise, to any carnival band.  I am not a committee member nor can I provide information as to sizes or costumes available—if you need that information, please contact the band/s directly.  All opinions about costumes and bands posted on this blog are solely my own.  I am not paid by bands to write reviews and I do not give my reviews to any band for approval before I publish any carnival-related post.

Carnival Monarchs–Soca, Calypso, and Kings

The closest I've come to carnival anything this year involved going to a panyard.  Unless you count hearing three fetes going down near my house, that makes a grand total of ONE single, solitary carnival event.  It's OK, though; my carnival mojo never appeared this year, partly because I know that it couldn't appear.  I'm ...

On Island People And Their Return To The Drawing Board

So my carnival mojo isn't back yet.  I'm waiting for the feather dreams to come back, and my band launch count remains at zero. However, I'm beginning to itch for a mas camp visit or five, and I've watched a few band launches on TriniScene, so I'm taking that as a good sign (namely, that I ...

The Grinch Who Stole My Carnival Spirit

Actually, I haven't found the Grinch who stole my Carnival spirit--but I'm looking. At this time last year, I was buzzing over band launches, comparing the relative merits of one costume against another, picturing myself in different costumes, scoping makeup ideas, and generally being unbearable to everyone around me about all things Carnival. This year, say the ...

The Carnival Post Mortem: The Carnival Improvement Plan

I survived Carnival...but, most importantly, I survived Operation: Carnival Booty. I devised this plan when, upon returning from my mother's cake-filled house at Christmas and taking a look at my smushy self after the half-marathon, I realized that drastic toning measures were in order.  Cue five sessions of hard cardio each week, two sessions of ...
